1 vs. 1 Tournament is a multiplayer game mode in Asphalt 9: Legends introduced in the Ferrari Season Update.
Overview[]
The goal of 1 vs. 1 Tournament is to win as many consecutive races as possible, up to a maximum of 12 races.
Upon first entering the 1 vs. 1 Tournament, the player has to choose between starting at the 1st, 4th, or 7th race, with a corresponding entry fee for each. Starting from 4th and 7th stage costs 350 and 500 respectively, and prior to the Full Throttle Update, starting from the 1st race costs 100. The entry fee is waived for players who have purchased a Legend Pass during the ongoing season.
After the player has selected a starting race, they are presented with two "sponsored cars" and must choose one of them to use for the entirety of the tournament; the player is also concurrently informed of the locations that tournament races will be held on. If the player does not want to choose from the sponsored cars that they are given, they can pay 150 to change their selection, and they can do this until a desirable sponsored car is available. Once the player has decided on which sponsored car to use, they cannot change it until they have completed the tournament.
When the player starts a race, they will be matched up with one other online player, typically with a similar level of progression in the tournament, on a location randomly chosen by the server. 1 vs. 1 Tournament races function similar to Ghost multiplayer series races, in that neither player can wreck the opponent via any means. The player wins the race if they reach the finish line first, or if the other player disconnects before the race starts. The player loses the race if the other player reaches the finish line first, of if the player disconnects during the race for any reason.
The player's wins and losses are logged by the game until 12 races or 3 losses are recorded, whichever comes first. If the player records 12 wins, they are given a congratulatory message and allowed to collect their rewards, thus completing one run of the 1 vs. 1 Tournament. If the player records 3 losses, they are given the option to either continue the tournament with their chosen sponsored car by paying tokens, or end their current run and claim the rewards they have earned. Alternatively, if the tournament period ends before the player records 12 wins or 3 losses, they will be given rewards based on their number of wins in the tournament.
When the player has completed or ended a run of the 1 vs. 1 Tournament, their access to the game mode goes into a cooldown period, which can be skipped by spending tokens. The cooldown period varies depending on the number of races the player won in their previous run, with the cooldown period being longer if the player has won more races.
