The 2018 McLaren X2 is a concept Formula One race car based on the older McLaren MP4-X concept. It is featured in Asphalt 8: Airborne.
While the X2 is visually identical to the preceeding MP4-X concept, various changes have been made to its design, including the livery used by the McLaren Renault Formula One team in the 2018 Formula One season.
The 1.8 L (1,800 cc; 109.8 cu in) turbocharged hybrid V6 engine is imported from the McLaren MCL33 Formula One race car, but updated to make well over 1200 hp (895 kW) and 900 ft·lb (1220 N·m) of torque.
Although no official performance ratings have been given for this car, it is capable of 0 - 60 mph (97 km/h) in under 2.7 seconds and a top speed exceeding 255 mph (411 km/h), which are the performance figures used in the Asphalt games.
The 2018 McLaren X2 was added in the Asphalt Moments Update as a high-end Class S car with the following statistics:
- Starting rank: 1480
- Hidden MAX rank: 1692 (+212)
- PRO rank: 1816 (+124 if counting MAX)
- Tuning Kit bonus: +42
- Stock-to-PRO rank difference: 336
- Upgrade rank percentages: 2/55/2/41
- Speed Modifier: 87.17%
- This is shared with the Koenigsegg Agera R, but with a very slight modification for the X2.
- Nitro Efficiency: 7/13/16
The X2 only has PRO upgrades and no MAX upgrades.

With a performance map based on that of the McLaren MP4-31, the 2018 McLaren X2 excels in top speed, handling, and acceleration, with a maximum real total speed of 316.8 mph／510.1 km/h at PRO with Tuning Kit boost on that can be reached in as fast as 2.3 seconds. It is slightly improved in the nitro efficiency department, with 7/13/16, also again compensated for with a higher raw top speed compared to its closest rivals. Just like the MP4-31, though, the X2 skids frequently and can often spin uncontrollably while exiting ramps, but with a much higher frequency than normal, making it even more of a "high risk + high reward" vehicle than others. The X2's very high instability is due to its extremely sharp steering radius, allowing it to take many corners without drifting. Its drift radius is noticeably wider than those of its rivals. With all statistics considered, the X2 currently ranks as the best car in the game, ahead of the Apollo Intensa Emozione, McLaren MP4-31, Aston Martin Vulcan, and Arrinera Hussarya GT. Its closest rival is the Lamborghini Centenario LP 770-4, which has better drifting capabilities and a higher total speed, although these advantages only show in 2-lap races or longer.
The Halloween Update, which brings in improved car handling and physics stability models, makes the X2 safer to drive than before.
Being one of the best S Class cars, the McLaren X2 can perform extremely well in TLEs, being able to achieve a top 25 easily with some skill when the car is at PRO (10/10/10/10). It is also the best McLaren car to date, topping the previous best McLaren MP4-31, and will hence dominate the leaderboard should a McLaren-only event appear.
However, due to it requiring 64 Custom Racing Engines to be fully upgraded, the Apollo IE may remain as the best vehicle usable overall factoring in upgrade difficulty. In addition, the AM Vulcan is not burdened by the restrictive availability of both the X2 and Apollo IE and the -only upgrades of the latter. The Lambo Centenario is also burdened by an extreme engine card requirement of 60 V12 MPI Engines and -only upgrades that cover all of the Level 4 and Level 5 upgrades for the car.
The X2 is for advanced players, given the difficulty of its Championship event, as well as the difficulty in obtaining Custom Racing Engines. Players who have the resources available should invest in getting the X2 through its Championship event.
The X2 can also perform extremely well in Multiplayer at PRO rank. At the start, its superior acceleration gives it an advantage that prevents other cars from knocking it down, and its nearly identical (if not superior) top speed compared to other cars commonly found in the 1800+ bracket - AM Vulcan, Apollo IE, McLaren MP4-31, Hussarya GT - allows it to hold its lead. If driven skillfully, it can reach very high placements in the Champion League and even make it as far as the Elite League.
The X2 also has some usage in Multiplayer even when not fully PRO. Its fairly low starting rank allows it to reach a high speed at ranks 1670 and above. Although it is slower than the Apollo at any rank below 1800, the X2 can pull out wins regularly against nearly all other cars due to its all-around good stats. Because of its superb acceleration, the X2 performs best against the Apollo on shorter tracks when MP-tuned. Here are a few useful non-PRO Multiplayer tunes:
- 10-0-10-0 (Rank 1672): Real speed= 490.4 km/h (304.6 mph), Displayed speed= 562.6 km/h (349.6 mph)
- 10-0-10-2 (Rank 1679): Real speed= 491.7 km/h (305.6 mph), Displayed speed= 563.8 km/h (350.3 mph)
- 10-0-10-5 (Rank 1697): Real speed= 494.2 km/h (307.1 mph), Displayed speed= 566.6 km/h (352.1 mph)
- 10-0-10-10 (Rank 1744): Real speed= 500.3 km/h (310.7 mph), Displayed speed= 573.9 km/h (356.6 mph)
Despite this, if possible one should try to PRO the McLaren X2 because the 1800+ rank is where its potential shines the brightest. In addition, top speed cannot be upgraded independently of handling and/or acceleration, which leads to unnecessary rank addition.

Price & Availability
The X2 only obtainable through the completion of its Championship event. It does have a hidden purchase price of 18,000, which would make it the third most expensive vehicle to purchase, behind the Apollo IE and premium 2015 GTA Spano. It was made available in the garage for said tokens price between January 22-29, 2019.
As of Fast Lane Update Pro Kits require 1,617,200, 50 of each Class S Part, 64 Mid-Techs, 96 Advanced Techs, and 92 Custom Racing Engines.
