Special Projects is a new game mode that lets you drive a car in a series of tests that you don't own yet. At the end of the Special Project, if you successfully complete all races, you win the car.
It is functionally identical to Research & Development in Asphalt 8: Airborne. Several differences in Xtreme are the lack of pre-race quotes, all vehicles only have 3 stages to complete: Research, Development and Manufacture instead of labs, and all 3 tasks for each race have to be completed to advance to the next instead of achieving quality checks.
Instead of keys, fuses are used instead. Fuses need 4 hours for all 3 to be restocked.
