The Ariel Atom V8 sports amazing acceleration. It has a strong nitro boost coupled with an extremely high nitro efficiency. This is offset by its mediocre top speed of 227.8 mph/366.8 km/h. The Atom has relatively stiff steering, a sharp drift radius and extreme tire grip; this often results in frequent "over-steering" when drifting around corners. The car's triangular footprint, coupled with its low weight, also makes it more likely to wreck; while not every collision is a guaranteed wreck, players should expect more wrecks than usual while driving the Atom.

Performance Overview
  +
Compared to other Class D vehicles, the Ariel Atom V8 features a very high maximum speed of 228.8 mph (368.4 km/h), very fast acceleration, very good handling, very sharp drifting and very good nitro efficiency, and it is the highest-ranked vehicle in the class by a significant margin at D1353. Overall, the Atom V8's performance in almost unmatched in every category. The only two Class D vehicles that come even remotely close to challenging the Atom V8 are the Donkervoort D8 GTO (D1341), which has similar but slightly-worse overall performance in comparison to the Atom V8 (crucially, the D8 GTO's acceleration and nitro efficiency are excellent), and the newly-released DS E-TENSE (D1342), which seems to have faster acceleration than the Atom V8 at the cost of relatively poor handling and a slightly lower maximum speed.

  +
History of Performance Changes
The Atom is a competitive Class D car if one does not have the Mazda RX-8 or Hyundai i30 N.

  +
When the Ariel Atom V8 was added to the game in the Fallout Boy Update of February 2018, it was roughly the second-best vehicle in Class D after the Mazda RX-8 (previously, an Elite vehicle) and it was the highest-ranked Class D vehicle (D1372). Featuring very fast acceleration and very good nitro efficiency, the Atom V8's performance was comparable to the Donkervoort D8 GTO's. However, it also had a very large nitro boost (61.9 mph or 99.7 km/h) and low top speed (165.9 mph or 267.1 km/h), similar to the Ford F-150, Renault DeZir and Porsche 959. The Atom V8's total top speed was 227.8 mph (366.8 km/h). Due to its very large nitro boost, the Atom V8's handling was originally very "stiff", requiring frequent drifting to turn corners; fortunately, its drifting capabilities were very good, though it was easy to oversteer. Due to its unique upgrade configuration of 10 PRO upgrade levels and no MAX upgrades, the Atom V8 was comparable to the McLaren formula-one cars (e.g. 2018 McLaren X2) in terms of Multiplayer tuning at this time.

  +
After the Hyundai i30 N (previously, an Elite vehicle) was added to the game in the Halloween Update of October 2018, the Ariel Atom V8 ranked as the eighth-fastest Class D vehicle (after the i30 N, Mazda RX-8, nanoFlowcell QUANTINO, Buick Avista Concept, SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI, 1967 Chevrolet Impala and Mazda 6). The Atom V8 also ranked as the third-best Class D vehicle in terms of overall performance (owing to its superb acceleration and nitro efficiency) after the RX-8 and i30 N (which were roughly tied as the best Class D vehicles). At this time, the Atom V8 still proved useful in Class D Tag Racing Time-Limited Events (which required the top three Class D vehicles) and served as a decent competitor against the RX-8 and i30 N in "Heat" TLEs.
The Atom can be considered as an alternate version of the Porsche 959, with a lower nitro stat.

  +
The Showdown Update of June 2019 changed the Ariel Atom V8's raw top speed to 203.5 mph (327.8 km/h) and its nitro boost to 24.3 mph (39.1 km/h), improving its overall performance by decreasing its reliance on nitro (the Atom V8's total top speed was increased by 0.1 km/h and less than 0.1 mph). The Atom V8's handling was also greatly improved as a result of these speed changes. Furthermore, the Atom V8's final rank was lowered from D1372 to D1352. In the Sixth Anniversary Update of September 2019, the feature of Elite tuning was removed in its entirety from the game, rendering both the Hyundai i30 N and Mazda RX-8 uncompetitive. Thus, the Ariel Atom V8 was left as the unchallenged king of Class D, with the Donkervoort D8 GTO being the distant second-best Class D vehicle.

This period saw several changes to the performance of the Ariel Atom V8 and all of its competitors in Class D. Throughout this period, the Atom V8 was gradually buffed with nearly every update, whereas its two fiercest rivals, the Mazda RX-8 and Hyundai i30 N, were greatly nerfed. This eventually left the Atom V8 as the undisputed king of Class D.

The Ariel Atom V8 has relatively stiff steering when its nitro is active. However, it has a tight drifting radius, as well as extreme tire grip comparable to the Mercedes-Benz Biome. This allows it to easily maintain its speed around corners through the use of mini-drifts, although it is also more likely to wreck against the inside of turns if it drifts too much. The extreme tire grip also makes the Atom V8 very stable and unlikely to skid if a hard turn is made while deaccelerating.

History of Performance Changes

When the Ariel Atom V8 was added to the game in the Fallout Boy Update of February 2018, it was roughly the second-best vehicle in Class D after the Mazda RX-8 (previously, an Elite vehicle) and it was the highest-ranked Class D vehicle (D1372).

In the Halloween Update of October 2019, the Ariel Atom V8's maximum speed was increased from 227.8 mph (366.9 km/h) to 228.8 mph (368.4 km/h) and its rank was slightly increased from D1352 to D1353. Additionally, the Atom V8's acceleration was allegedly nerfed (according to the official patch notes), though it is not clear to what degree.

Throughout this period, the Atom V8 was gradually buffed with nearly every update, whereas its two fiercest rivals, the Mazda RX-8 and Hyundai i30 N, were greatly nerfed. This eventually left the Atom V8 as the undisputed king of Class D.

The Ariel Atom V8 is the highest-ranked vehicle in Class D without Elite tuning.

The Ariel Atom V8 has an abysmal raw top speed (165.9 mph/267.1 km/h) that is offset by its huge nitro boost (61.9 mph/99.7 km/h). This means that, although it has a raw top speed lower than the Cadillac XTS (166.2 mph/267.7 km/h), it ranks as the eighth-fastest Class D vehicle (227.8 mph/366.8 km/h).

The Ariel Atom V8's excellent nitro efficiency means that it can sustain its total speed for longer periods, especially on tracks with frequent nitro pickups and ramps.

The extreme tire grip also makes the Atom V8 very stable and unlikely to skid if a hard turn is made while deaccelerating.

With all statistics considered, the Ariel Atom V8 is the third-best vehicle in Class D, behind the Mazda RX-8 and Hyundai i30 N, and it competes with the nanoFlowcell QUANTINO, Donkervoort D8 GTO, Porsche 959, Mazda 6, Buick Avista Concept, SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI and Honda S2000.

Official review

This is the official review of the Ariel Atom V8 on the Asphalt YouTube channel, made by ReV_Tez and published on February 28, 2018:

Time to reach end of Tokyo straight: 8.316s

Perfect nitro duration: 13.002s
