Asphalt 8: Airborne
Summary
The BMW M2 Special Edition is a high-end Class B car added in the Fall Out Boy Update with the following rank statistics:
- Starting rank: 917
- MAX rank: 1442 (+525)
- MAX+PRO rank: 1687 (+245)
- Tuning Kit bonus: +75
- Stock to MAX+PRO rank difference: 770
- Upgrade rank percentages: 10/40/20/30
- Nitro Efficiency: 6/10/15
The BMW M2 Special Edition rivals the Mazda RX-8 Special Edition, Mercedes-AMG GT3, Ferrari GTC4Lusso, and McLaren MP4/8.
Performance
The well rounded performance of the BMW M2 Special Edition makes it similar to a Class B version of the Arrinera Hussarya GT and Aston Martin Vulcan.
The BMW M2 SE has mediocre acceleration that is slightly slower than some of its competitors like the AMG GT3 and Holden Coupe 60. The BMW M2 SE's handling and drifting are very adequate and make it easy to control, with a precise drift radius that is very tight, but not enough to cause frequent oversteering (such as the case with the RX-8 SE).
The BMW M2 SE's main advantage is its total speed, as the second highest in Class B, at 289.9 mph/466.8 km/h. Depending on the car, the M2 SE can go up to 6.2 mph/10 km/h faster than its rivals. Adding on to that, the M2 SE has an excellent nitro efficiency rating of 6/10/15.
With the BMW M2 SE's exceptional and balanced performance, it is able to clock extreme timings on all tracks.
Before its release, it was anticipated to beat, or at the least rival the AMG GT3, the B Class king since its release. As many noted, given their extremely similar performance, it all boiled down to the Tuning Kit bonus. Upon its release, the M2 SE triumphed over the AMG GT3 in this aspect, which ultimately allowed it to surpass the AMG GT3.
With the release of the Mazda RX-8 Special Edition, the BMW M2 SE has been surpassed as the Mazda RX-8 Special Edition has faster acceleration and higher total top speed. The BMW M2 SE's only advantages against the Mazda RX-8 Special Edition are its better nitro efficiency and the latter's restrictive availability, significantly lower multiplayer competitiveness, and use of -only upgrades.
Usage
Multiplayer
Given the BMW M2 Special Edition's large rank gap between its starting rank and MAX+PRO rank, the M2 Special Edition is a serious competitor in Multiplayer against various stalwarts like the Chevrolet 2016 Camaro SS and TVR Sagaris. The BMW M2 SE's main rivals are the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Special Edition and Audi R8 e-tron Special Edition as the former has higher top speed while the latter is capable of similar performance at a significantly lower rank.
The BMW M2 Special Edition is very sought after given how easy its unique new event was, in comparison to other special events, despite being fairly confusing for many players, and the fact that it can still be assembled with Common-rarity blueprints. It is, therefore, a very popular car and appearances of at least one other M2 Special Edition in the same race are common. Racing double boosted is recommended for a more competitive technique, while racing triple boosted is advisable when reaching for higher leagues.
The BMW M2 Special Edition is best used at higher ranks, due to it able to compete with the Chevy Camaro '16 and AM Vulcan. It is not as proficient at lower ranks due to the R8 e-tron SE being superior in almost all aspects compared to the M2 SE. At higher ranks, it is strongly inferior to the Apollo Intensa Emozione, Porsche Carrera GT, Rezvani Beast Alpha, BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage, and McLaren 720S.
Some viable Multiplayer tunes for the BMW M2 SE include 5505 5050 and 5505 5555. With these tunes, the BMW M2 Special Edition can compete with the Chevrolet 2016 Camaro SS, but the second tune is generally better except for players lacking in i6 Engines. In order for the M2 SE to be truly effective, it is recommended to be double boosted in every race due to its large Tuning Kit bonus.
Other
While the Mazda RX-8 Special Edition dominates Class B TLE's, the BMW M2 Special Edition is still a competitive car as its superior nitro efficiency is crucial on the longer tracks of Tokyo and Azure Coast. In addition, it is not burdened by restrictive availability and token-only upgrades.
The BMW M2 Special Edition is the second-best available vehicle in BMW-exclusive events, only behind the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage.
Price
The BMW M2 Special Edition was previously assembled by collecting 70 of its Common-rarity Blueprints, however as of the Sixth Anniversary Mini Update, the car no longer requires Blueprints to be assembled and has a full purchase price of 7,000. It was also made time-limited.
The M2 Special Edition is a reward for reaching Tier 1 in the Ferrari SF90 Stradale Festival, however, the Premium Pass is needed.
As of the 2019 Spring Update, upgrades cost 2,400,000 while Pro Kits require 800,000, 42 of each Class B Part, 30 Early & Initial Techs each, 52 Mid-Techs, and 72 i6 Engines.
