Overview[]

The midsize Colorado is available in several cab and bed configurations. Its smaller size makes it more maneuverable than full-size trucks in tight parking lots and streets. Unfortunately, larger trucks don’t cost much more and get about the same fuel economy.

The Colorado launched eight years ago with a choice of inline four or inline five-cylinder engines. The manual-equipped four-cylinder engine offers decent power and fuel mileage. The five-cylinder automatic transmission combo feels slower and suffers from an inherent vibration from the odd cylinder count. A few years ago Chevy added the 5.3-liter V-8 from the larger Silverado 1500. Unfortunately, mating the V-8 to a four-speed automatic nets it less fuel economy than the larger truck with the same engine and a six-speed automatic.

The Colorado can tow up to 6000 pounds with the V-8 making it a good value for city dwellers who need its towing capacity and park in tight lots. An optional ZQ8 sport-tuned suspension lowers the truck one inch and increases handling. The Z71 off-road package for four-wheel drive versions is ideal for those who spend time off-road. An-all new Colorado is expected sometime after the summer of 2012.

Overview[]

The Chevrolet Colorado Z71 appears as a Class D Pickup. It requires 20 blueprints to unlock and has a starting rank of Level 2. Oil changes take 14 minutes to complete, and cost Credits 200 per change prior to the removal of the oil system in the Netflix Relaunch.

The Colorado Z71 depicted in-game is a crew cab modified for off-road racing. The front bumper has been replaced by a custom front bumper with a built in bulbar and fog lights, a set of fog lights also have been mounted on the roof. A spare tire has been stored in the bed of the truck, roll bars have also been installed, which is outfitted with a rear bed radiator, and additional brake lights.

Performance[]

The Chevrolet Colorado Z71 is likely to be the player's first pickup to unlock due to its placement as a low rank class D pickup, and serves its role in introducing the player to the pickup archetype. The placement perhaps explains why the Colorado's performance is relatively straight-forward for a pickup, it is slow off the line with it sluggish acceleration, struggles with maneuverability due to its heavy steering feel and response, but has decent top speed, decent drift boost abilities, and has exceptional airspeed capabilities. Unfortunately, as a consequence of being one of the original cars in the game, the Colorado has been overshadowed by later additions to the Pickup class, the Chevrolet C10 in particular being essentially a direct upgrade in every aspect. On the flipside, the Colorado Z71 can be relatively competitive if used properly, although one must be vary of its tendency to behave unexpectedly on bumps, and fail to complete certain flat spins (this can be remedied by hitting the tail of the car on a wall to force the car to straighten up). The Z71's aforementioned shortcomings may not be as apparent at lower ranks due to the lower top speeds achievable. the Colorado is also one of the few cars capable of exploiting their high maximum airspeed via drift-boosts at ranks below 15, while not having to worry about extremely short nitro durations the monster trucks at similar ranks face, with the others being the Polaris RZR XP 1000 EPS and C10

The Colorado Z71 can only reach a maximum of Level 15 without requiring additional rank-up tools, at this rank, it is vastly inferior to the C10 and the Polaris. While superior options are present, the Colorado Z71 isn't absolutely worthless at this rank, while it may not be able to reach max airspeed as easily as the C10, the decent drift boosting potential means that it can still gain airspeed at a rank bracket where continous all-in nitro spam is not as effective as using long nitro due to lack of sustainability.

Maxing out the Colorado Z71 to level 50 results in a car that can be described as an extreme version of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, the acceleration for both cars are relatively lackluster for the class, but the Colorado Z71 has one of the worst long nitro acceleration within the archetype, reaching from standstill to long nitro speed in a pitiful 7.6 seconds when running at 30 FPS. Like the ZR2, the Z71's drift radius is mediocre, and the sometimes unpredictable suspension may occasionally clip into the floor unexpectedly on bumps and jumps, losing balance and speed (A phenomenon that is common in this archetype). The Z71 however also boasts substantially higher top speed than the ZR2 in all aspects, and boasts the highest unboosted long nitro top speed within the archetype. Overall, this makes the Z71 somewhat of a snowball vehicle, starting off very slow and underwhelming, but with skill, can use its massive speed potential and weight to climb back and knockdown most archetypes. When compared to other pickups at this rank, the Z71's laptimes puts it around the same pace as the Chevrolet Silverado Centennial Edition, a car that has worse top speed and a significantly buggier suspension in exchange for faster acceleration and better nitro power. Ultimately, both cars usually end up being a second or more off the pace of the C10.

The Chevrolet Colorado Z71's long nitro, and all-in top speeds is the best within the entire archetype, beating even the Chevrolet C10, albeit not be a significant margin, the gains can be expanded upon even further with the usage of extra tank and overclock, although caution should be considered as the already questionable controllability of the Z71 will be strained even further than before. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that the Z71 falls behind the C10 in terms of maximum airspeed, therefore it doesn't completely dominate it in terms of top speed in all aspects.

As hinted to before, extremely high top speed comes at a significant cost, the long nitro acceleration of 7.6 seconds makes the Colorado fall behind nearly 2 full seconds behind the fastest accelerating pickup, and nearly 1 full second behind the ZR2's 6.6 seconds. The all nitro acceleration of 5.3 seconds is still barely faster than the 3100's long nitro acceleration. This leaves the Z71 extremely susceptible to knockdowns by monster trucks at the start of multiplayer races, and makes early knockdowns tricky to pull off at the start of races, owing to a lack of forwards momentum to actually reach and knockdown an opponent.

Boosters[]

Requiring Class-D Blueprints 22 of its own blueprints to activate, the overclock performance of the Chevrolet Colorado Z71 puts it at a distinct advantage over the Chevrolet C10. For some reason the C10 does not seem to benefit that much due to a noticeable smaller increase in performance than the Colorado. While the increase of performance might make the Colorado more competitive against the C10, the difficulty, instability, and the poor acceleration still makes the Colorado Z71 practically inferior to the C10, in addition to the more forgiving Lynx DCC 2016-J and the Polaris.

The Z71 can benefit from the use of an extra tank like all pickups. Extra tank should be used when one wants to capitalize upon the distinct top speed advantage the Z71 has over the other pickups, given they can manage 4 tanks of nitro rather than 3.

Boosted wheels are not very useful for pickups at Level 50, and are therefore not recommended for the Z71

While nitro recharger usually doesn't work well with pickups, a niche can be found with the Z71, depending on the relative position of opponents at the start of a race, it is sometimes better to delay boost for a second in order for the Z71 to have enough momentum for a drift boost, giving a greater chance of catching up and knocking down an opponent, the increased charge rate can give the Z71 more boost before activating nitro. Outside of this usage, nitro recharger is not really an important booster for pickups.

Time-Limited Events[]

While the Chevrolet Colorado Z71 is overshadowed by the C10, it can still be used to relatively good effect in time limited events assuming the player can use its advantages well. Being a D class car makes it almost always available for events, and on tracks that are airspeed-centric where Pickups and buggies excel, the Colorado is at most a few seconds of the pace of the C10.

Conclusion[]

The Chevrolet Colorado Z71 serves as a good introduction to the playstyle the pickup archetype offers, and is exceptional stats in some areas. Unfortunately, the Z71 is held back by its acceleration to really be as competitive as the best offerings in the archetype. It may be worth upgrading it to certain ranks for multiplayer rather than maxing it out.
