- The Donkervoort D8 GTO is the first car in Asphalt 8: Airborne to use the i5 Engine card in its Pro Kit formulas.
- It is the third car in the game to use an i5 engine, after the Audi RS 3 Sportback and the Ford Focus RS. However, the Focus RS only required the engine card after the Fast Lane Update.
- Before the Car Blueprints Update, the engine sound had constant redlining. This sound would later be reused by the Koenigsegg Regera.
- Throughout the Events of August & September 2016, players could win up to 43 i5 engine cards even though the Donkervoort D8 GTO only needs 8 prior to the 2019 Spring Update.
- The Donkervoort D8 GTO is the only car of the Rio Update that is not an Elite Car and isn't unlockable via either Research & Development, Enduro Double Down, or the VIP System.
- It is also one of two cars in the Rio Update that is purchasable with credits, the other is the Cadillac ATS-V Coupe.
- The Donkervoort D8 GTO is the fifth car to have its soft-top roof deployed in the game, after the Mini Cooper S Roadster, Jaguar F-Type R, Honda S2000, and Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7.
- The Donkervoort D8 GTO is the first D Class car with a starting rank of more than 1000 points.
- Due to the somewhat funny-sounding manufacturer name, the Donkervoort D8 GTO has been given the nickname "Donkey" by players.
