A Festival is a type of special event introduced by the 5th Anniversary Festival. Initially based on the World Tour event, each festival introduced its own currency (Festival Coins) and Pro Kit Boxes.
The 6th Anniversary festival introduced a completely new format that turned festivals into vehicle-specific events. (See "Second Generation" below.)
First generation
The objective of the first generation Festivals was to collect Festival Coins that enabled players to buy special Pro Kit Boxes ("Bundles") available during the event to get rewards. Certain amounts of spent Coins also unlocked milestone boxes ("Packages").

Second generation
The second generation of Festivals replaced milestones with tiers whose rewards can be unlocked by collecting Festival Coins. One of the tier rewards is the featured event vehicle.
Coins can no longer be collected on race tracks but only be obtained by completing quests. They also lost their function as a currency as nothing can be bought with them; Festival Boxes have been discontinued. Instead, a new "Festival Coin Pack" was introduced whose sole purpose is to add a random process so players now cannot be certain about the amount of Coins they get from quests.
Since the New Year Festival, Festivals are followed by a Festival Special granting random rewards when players spin a simulated wheel of fortune.
