The Ford GT 2017's Research & Development event was released as part of the Showdown Update and held on the following dates:

• July 4, 2019 (After the Aston Martin Vantage 2018 R&D)
• February 13, 2020 (After the McLaren Senna Festival)

There are 4 Labs spanning a total of 50 Tests with a time limit of 12 days once the event is started. The event has an individual key refill duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The labs will unlock in the following schedule:

• Lab .002.: 2 days later or pay  1,000
• Lab .003.: 5 days later or pay  1,000
• Lab .004.: 8 days later or pay  800

• Completion of this event without auto-passing will require the car to be at MAX+PRO. This will cost  1,900,000 +  8,000, 80 V6 Engines, and  3,720,000.

• Test .022. has a bug where up to 2 Quality Checks collected on the track, and the Quality Check from completing the Main Goal, are not counted.
• The minimum tune required to complete the event is [5545 5255]. This requires  2,660,600 +  6,000, 68 V6 Engines, 72 Advanced Techs and 44 Mid-Techs.
  • As the event gives out 16 engines, 52 more must be obtained through other means.
  • Players should note that the final Ultimate AI can be beaten with a lower configuration of [5545 5052]. However, this configuration is not enough for Tests .040. and .044. (the penultimate AI).
• If the player decides to auto-test the final Ultimate AI, an alternative tune that can be used to complete the rest of the event is [5505 5254]. This requires  2,124,200 +  8,350 (inclusive of the cost needed to auto-test the final Ultimate AI), 64 V6 Engines, 63 Advanced Techs and 44 Mid-Techs. However, double/triple boosters are mandatory for most races from Test .030. onwards and the player needs to be very skilled.
• As there are no free upgrades in this event, the Ferrari, Drive in Style and Chevrolet collections can be completed to upgrade the Ford GT 2017 should the player choose to complete the event without auto-testing the final Ultimate AI. A total of 15 Class A free upgrades can be obtained from the 3 collections for the Ford GT's 4 TOUs.
  • The Chevrolet collection is the cheapest collection to complete, as the collection does not require any cars that can only be purchased with or have to be assembled with Blueprints.
    • The Chevrolet collection gives 4 free Class A upgrades for completing the collection, which requires  3,086,750 to max out all the four required cars.
• As this event is identical to the R&D of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage, all the tips and warnings for that event also apply here.
