Short for 10-0-10-0. Denotes a →tune for a vehicle that has 10 upgrade levels, using the hexadecimal numeral A for 10.
A8 (Asphalt 8)
The Asphalt 8 game.
A9 (Asphalt 9)
The Asphalt 9 game.
A9C
Chinese version of Asphalt 9.
A9G
Global version of Asphalt 9.
AI
1. Artificial intelligence – A term used by Asphalt 8 for the final computer-driven opponent at the end of test tiers in Research & Development events ("Final AI"). Also used by players to denote every other computer-driven →NPC opponent in the game.
2. Asphalt Injection – The Asphalt Injection game.
AHGT (Arrinera Hussarya GT)
A car in Asphalt 8.
AIE (Apollo Intensa Emozione)
A car in Asphalt 8.
Archetype
A additional classification scheme for vehicles in Asphalt Xtreme, not grouping vehicles by class but by archetypes like Rally Car, Buggy, Muscle Car, Pickup etc.
ARSE (Audi R8 e-tron Special Edition)
An →OP car in Asphalt 8. Often used in a pejorative way with a reference to both human buttocks and the sometimes rude behavior of drivers of this car in multiplayer races.
  • Alternatively, "AR8SE" or "R8SE", less obscene abbreviations.
AT (Advanced Tech)
A Pro Kit card in Asphalt 8.
AXTR (Asphalt Xtreme)
The Asphalt Xtreme game, also often used as decal lettering in-game.

B[]

BAD, Bad
Coined by user Neil (at the forums) in circa November 2020, this term is an abbreviation of the currency "Gauntlet Badges", which is featured in Gauntlet mode. The term can also refer to Multiplayer/Series Badges, but those are preferably designated as →"MuCs".
Backflip
A figure performed by Asphalt 8 bikes by triggering →super-charged mode on a flat ramp. Performing a backflip does not count as a stunt, but is required for certain Festival quests.
bhp (Brake horsepower)
An imperial unit of measurement of engine power used in Asphalt Streetstorm, expressed in horsepower (hp). The "b" only denotes the type of measurement, as it is measured by the resistance of an applied brake.
Boat
A car with a distinctly sluggish handling, such as the Cadillac 16 Concept or the NanoFlowcell QUANT FE.

BP (Blueprint)
A game element in many Asphalt games.
Bounce
A phenomenon where a car is suddenly launched upwards while driving over uneven terrain.
Bully Car (Chevrolet 2016 Camaro SS)
A once-dominant contender in Asphalt 8. Often used pejoratively to refer to the occasional bullying behavior of this car's owners in multiplayer races.
Bump trick
The use of →Drift-boosting to minimize lift (and thus speed loss) at track bumps. Demo here.

C10 (Chevrolet C10)
A car in Asphalt Xtreme.
Card doubling
See →extra card.
Carrot
Nickname for the 2018 McLaren X2 among some players, due to the car's striking orange paintjob.
CB (→Cheaterboard)
CC (Customer Care)
Gameloft's support team for solving players' problems with the games.
Charged
An addtional Nitro type for Asphalt 8 bikes. Driving with activated Nitro, knocking down other racers and performing stunts or →Tilt Jumps fills the purple bar under the yellow Nitro bar. If it is full, the bike is in charged mode. Firing nitro during the white zone of the bar triggers →super-charged mode, an equivalent to →Perfect Nitro, but even faster.
Cheaterboard
An alternative leaderboard in Asphalt 8 where players are moved for 24 hours when a server-based algorithm suspects them of fraud.
Cherrytapping
To play with a low-class car in high league levels in Asphalt 9.
CL (Champion League)
A level in Multiplayer League.
Club hopping
To switch between clubs in Asphalt 9 for purposes of obtaining milestone prizes.
Cockroach
A nickname, sometimes used endearingly, for the ED Design Torq. (Originated, according to some sources, by the overall design of the car's bodywork.)
Coin
An in-game currency.
CRE (Custom Racing Engine)
A Pro Kit card in Asphalt 8.
Credit
An in-game currency.
CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)
A computer language that expresses the presentation of structured documents, for example web pages. The term is mainly used on Asphalt Wiki guideline pages like Asphalt Wiki:Manual of Style. Everything within the quotes of a style="..." tag is CSS.

Daily Bonus
An incentive system in Asphalt 8 and Asphalt Xtreme granting rewards for daily logins.
DB (→Double boosted)
DC (Double Credits)
A type of booster.
Donkey
Nickname for the Donkervoort D8 GTO.
Double boosted
The strategy of using a Nitro Starter and Tuning Kit at the same time to set a faster lap time in Events and Season 9. See also →unboosted and →triple boosted.
Double technique
See →extra card.
Drift-boosting
A driving technique of negotiating corners more tightly and with minimal speed loss by repeating a quick sequence of braking and triple-tap nitro.
Drop rate
Common but unofficial term that denotes the expected value of the average relative frequency of an item. Example: The percentages of cards granted by a Pro Kit Box when a large number of boxes is openend. Not to be confused with →probability.

EB (Engine Box)
A Pro Kit Box in Asphalt 8, also used as "EB1" for Engine Box 1 etc.
ED (Exclusive Deals)
Limited-time offers in Asphalt 8 as an alternative option to Pro Kit Boxes. Discontinued as of the 2019 Halloween Update.
EDD (Enduro Double Down)
A type of special event in Asphalt 8.
EGP (Elite Grand Prix)
A type of special event in Asphalt 9.
EMP (electromagnetic pulse)
A type of weapon in the Catch mode of Asphalt Nitro, similar to the Pulsewave in the Showdown mode of Asphalt 8.
ET
1. Extra Tank – A type of booster.
2. Early Tech – A Pro Kit card in Asphalt 8.
Event
1. A Time-Limited Event (TLE) in Asphalt 8.
2. A special event like Championship, Research & Development or Enduro Double Down.
3. An outcome of an experiment in probability theory.

Extra card
A feature in Asphalt 8 and Ashalt Xtreme that grants an additional card for opened boxes by watching an ad.

Fake speed
The speed value shown in the speedometer and in the garage stats when it does not match the practical or effective speed, i.e. the speed that the affected vehicle moves at when run against others sporting similar values. See this chart for all known discrepant values.
Farming
Commonly known also as "grinding", is the practice of repetitively playing one or more in-game elements (such as Season 9 races and formerly, Mastery Challenges) over a period of time (usually several hours) to build up on resources such as Credits.
Festival
A type of special event in Asphalt 8.
FIV8 (Forced-Induction V8)
A card in Asphalt 8 and Asphalt Nitro.
FLB (Finish Line Box)
A Pro Kit Box in Asphalt 8.
FLU (Fast Lane Update)
Incidentally also short for influenza, a widespread and potentially deadly disease.
Focus meter
A purple bar with three white zones shown on the left side of the screen when a bike performs a straight jump in Asphalt 8. By tapping on the screen during the white zones, players can trigger a stunt.
Fridge
Nickname for the Faraday Future FFZERO1 among some players. This is due to its ungainly rectangular shape and bright white side panels resembling the commercial and home appliance.
FUC, FuC
Pejorative acronym for Fusion Coins, a currency in Asphalt 8 that made →Pro upgrades almost impossible upon its introduction in the 2019 Holiday Update. Typically pronounced "Fook", which emulates the French accent for the F-word.
FUGL©
Short, usually exclamatory, for "Go fornicate yourselves Gameloft!".

g
1. g-force – the gravitational force equivalent, a measurement of the type of force per unit mass (typically acceleration) that causes a perception of weight. Mostly misspelled as "Gs" and "G's" in the handling stats of Asphalt games.
2. Gram – A unit of measurement of weight.
G-Force
1. Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force – a car in Asphalt Xtreme.

GL (Gameloft)
The publisher of the Asphalt games.
Global bonus
A bonus in Asphalt 8 multiplayer mode that adds 0, 25 or 50 % of the earned →season points following a weekly pattern.
GP (Grand Prix)
A type of special event in Asphalt 9.
Greedloft
A name to call Gameloft for aggressive monetization or unsavory changes to a game that negatively impacts the player.
Grinding
See →farming.

H[]

Hacker attack
In Gauntlet, it is a common phenomenon to have hundreds of your rating points be stolen by an unseen attacker, typically with the notice of "No recent activity". These attacks are thought to be caused by "hackers", hence the term "hacker attack". Hacker attacks have been a frequent cause of frustration in Gauntlet mode ever since its inception in late-October 2020.
Hidden max rank
The rank required to unlock the Season 9 race of an Asphalt 8 car that has only pro and no max upgrades (mostly Formula 1 cars). As Season 9 races require a →max, but not necessarily a max pro car, the hidden max rank is lower than full →pro.
HUD (Head-up display)
Any transparent display that presents data without requiring users to look away from their usual viewpoints. Most Asphalt games simulate an on-screen HUD during races, displaying relevant game data like speed and short notifications.

IAP (In-app purchase)
Also known as "micro-transaction", is the purchase of virtual goods for real money from within any of the games. This can include content such as vehicles, Credits, Tokens and special time-limited offers.

J[]

JSON (JavaScript Object Notation)
An open standard file format in which many game objects are stored on the player's device. Most modern browsers can open JSON files directly. As Asphalt games often store files in →LZ4 compression format, they may have to be decompressed before.

K[]

K1 (Koenigsegg One:1)
A car in Asphalt 8 and Asphalt Nitro.
KD (Knockdown)
A gameplay element in the Asphalt series. It involves the use of force to forcefully wreck another racer and set them back in the race.

L[]

LEE (Legendary Electric Engine)
A Pro Kit card in Asphalt 8.
Leetspeak
Also known as "leet", "l33t" or "1337", derived from the word "elite". An internet slang based on modified spellings. One distinctive feature is the replacement of letters with similarly looking numbers, for example 1=L, 3=E, 4=A, 7=T. Asphalt Streetstorm makes extensive use of leetspeak for the fictitious "usernames" of →NPC opponents.
LTE (Limited-Time Event)
A type of short periodical events in Asphalt 9, Asphalt Streetstorm and Asphalt Xtreme. The equivalent to →Time-Limited Events in Asphalt 8 and Asphalt Nitro.
LZ4
A lossless data compression algorithm that is focused on compression and decompression speed. LZ4 compressed files usually keep their original file extensions so the compression is not visible at first sight, for example →.json files in Asphalt Street Storm Racing. They are decompressed by the game on the fly when needed.

M[]

Matchmaking
The automatic selection process of grouping vehicles of similar performance for a multiplayer race. As vehicles are usually matched by rank and not by speed, the →tune of a vehicle becomes important.
Max, to max
A maxed vehicle has all its upgrades increased to the highest possible level. Often used in combination with →pro ("max pro").
Max pro, to max pro
A max pro vehicle has all its upgrades and Pro Kits increased to the highest possible level.
MC (Mastery Challenge)
An abbreviation used by players to denote a race in Mastery, mostly combined with a number, e. g. "MC12".
Microdrifting
See →Drift-boosting.
Micro-wheelie
A phenomenon for Asphalt 8 bikes where using non-supercharged nitro causes the front wheel to lift slightly and restrict its steering angle as if it were performing a wheelie. A micro-wheelie will not trigger the wheelie distance counter, is difficult to spot visually, and can only be stopped by drifting, using a ramp, or running out of nitro.

A game mode.
MT
1. Mid-Tech – A Pro Kit card in Asphalt 8.
2. Monster Truck – An archetype in Asphalt Xtreme.
MUC, MuC
Coined by user MMS in April 2021, the term "MuC" refers to the currency "Multiplayer Badges", which were subsequently renamed to "Series Badges". This term combines the previously infamous →"FuC" term (referring to Fusion Coins) with the English pejorative word "Mook" (meaning "a stupid or incompetent person") as well as with the concept of "Multiplayer Coins". The term "Mook" itself is frequently used at the Free Asphalt Forum.

N[]

N2O
Chemical formula for nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas or nitrous, but named Nitro in most of the Asphalt games. Asphalt Street Storm Racing instead uses →NOS as a general term and "N2O Bottles" for Nitro bottles.
NOS (Nitrous Oxide Systems)
Another name for Nitro used in Asphalt Street Storm Racing. "Nitrous Oxide Systems" is actually the name of one of the pioneering companies in the development of nitrous oxide injection systems, and the initials NOS have become a genericized trademark.
NPC (Non-player character)
Any character in a game that is not controlled by a player.
NS (Nitro Starter)
A type of booster.

OP
1. Overpowered – An adjective for a vehicle that has an edge in multiplayer races for being significantly faster than similarly ranked vehicles.
2. Original poster – Referring to a person who wrote the first post in a comment or forum thread; also "original post" (non-Asphalt-specific).

P[]

PCGT (Porsche Carrera GT)
A car in Asphalt 8.
Perfect Nitro
A Nitro type for Asphalt 8 vehicles activated by firing Nitro during the red zone of the Nitro bar.
Pickup
An →archetype in Asphalt Xtreme.
Pick-up
A gameplay element in Asphalt Overdrive, similar to Nitro bottles found on Asphalt 8 tracks.
Pig
Nickname for the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage among some players, due to the front grille's resemblance to a pig's snout.
Pink
1. Short for →Pink Slip.
2. A paint in Asphalt Streetstorm.
Pink Slip
A gameplay element in Asphalt Streetstorm where players bet their car. "To pink someone" means to challenge a player to a Pink Slip.
Pro, to pro
A "proed" (also "pro'd" due to pronunciation) vehicle has all its Pro Kits increased to the highest possible level. Often used in combination with →max ("max pro").
Probability
The likelihood that an event will occur, for example obtaining a certain card from a Pro Kit Box, when only one box is opened. Not to be confused with →drop rate.
Punch-drifting
See →Drift-boosting.

Q[]

QC (Quality Check)
An item to be collected on track during Research & Development events in order to achieve test goals.
QSR (Quick Solo Race)
A solo racing mode in Asphalt 8 which is also playable offline. Credits are not awarded in this mode.

R[]

R5 (Mitsubishi R5)
A car in Asphalt Xtreme.
R&D (Research & Development)
A type of special event in Asphalt 8.
Race bonus
See →risk bonus.
Rating point
A level indicator in Asphalt 8 multiplayer mode to classify players in different leagues according to their accumulated rating points.
RB (Random Box)
A Pro Kit Box in Asphalt 8, also used as "RB1" for Random Box 1 etc.
Rebalance
Euphemism for to forcibly change thoroughly both vehicle stats, namely ranks and upgrade percentages, and game economy relative values. (Used by Gameloft since the Fast Lane Update as they purportedly keep making the game more enjoyable and competitive.)
Risk bonus
A bonus in Asphalt 8 multiplayer mode that adds 25, 50, 75 or 100 % of the earned →season points if a player risks them for the following race.
Rivals
1. A periodical event type in Asphalt Nitro.
2. A season in Asphalt Nitro.

Sandbag
Alternatively Sandbagging. A technique on Asphalt 9's Grand Prix events to win the key of the car without spending much tokens on it by performing slow lap times at qualification rounds in order to compete in lower and easier divisions. Players who perform it are called Sandbaggers.
SE
1. Special Edition – A fictional enhanced version of a vehicle in Asphalt 8, with a "Special Edition" added to its name.
2. Special Event – A type of event in Asphalt 9.
Season point
A level indicator in Asphalt 8 multiplayer mode to claim rewards like →Tokens and Multiplayer Boxes. Risking season points grants a →risk bonus. Not to be confused with →rating points.
Shameloft
Pejorative nickname for Gameloft, implying that they should be ashamed of themselves for their mistreatment of players.
Shaving Blade
Nickname for the 2018 McLaren X2 among some players. This is due to its resemblance to the personal grooming tool, specifically when the car is viewed from above.
Sniping
In Asphalt 9's Grand Prix events, to set a new time during the last moment of a Grand Prix round.
SkidLaren
Nickname for McLaren vehicles in Asphalt 8 (mainly their →CRE-engined) Formula One cars) due to their skittish nature and high tendency to skid at random. This issue was addressed in the Halloween Update.
Speed modification
See →fake speed.
SRE (Serial Racing Engine)
A Pro Kit card in Asphalt 8.
SRKB (Super Racer Kit Box)
A Pro Kit Box in Asphalt 8. Discontinued as of the 2019 Spring Update.
Star
A level indicator in Asphalt 8 and a way to upgrade vehicles in Asphalt 9.
Super-charged
An addtional Nitro type for Asphalt 8 bikes achieved by firing Nitro during the white zone of the purple bar in →charged mode. It is the equivalent to →Perfect Nitro, but even faster. Entering super-charged mode while driving straight triggers a →Wheelie on the ground and a →Backflip on a flat ramp.
SV (Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SV)
A car in Asphalt 8, 9, and Street Storm Racing.


T[]

Team boosting
In Multiplayer, a covenant among players who take turns running free and ticketed races, whereby free racers, which do not have rating points to lose, hinder outsiders (by blocking or knocking them down) so that ticketed teammates can place better.
Tilt Jump
A figure performed by Asphalt 8 bikes by driving over a curved ramp. Performing a Tilt Jump does not count as a stunt, but is required for certain R&D tests.
TK (Tuning Kit)
A type of booster.
TLE (Time-Limited Event)
A type of short periodical events in Asphalt 8 and Asphalt Nitro that can be reached via the Events button on the home screen. The equivalent in Asphalt 9, Asphalt Streetstorm and Asphalt Xtreme is called →Limited-Time Event.
Token
An in-game currency.
Total speed
The maximum speed a vehicle can attain and sustain. It is given by the sum, multiplied by the fake speed factor when applicable, of the top speed and nitro stats as displayed in the garage with a Tuning Kit deployed. (Not to be confused with "top speed" or derivatives such as "raw top speed".)
TOU (Token-only upgrade)
An upgrade for an Asphalt 8 vehicle that, in the absence of unspent free-upgrade rewards, can only be paid for with Tokens, sometimes in the order of a few thousands.
Trap setting
In Gauntlet mode, especially on shorter tracks, the strategy of purposely using one or more lower-ranked vehicles in addition to one's dominant default vehicles in order to decrease one's total rank in relation to one's assigned League, with the hopes of luring unsuspecting opponents into accepting and potentially losing what they may perceive as an easy challenge. The bait vehicles are often placed at the bottom of the vehicle lineup, and typically never used in the actual race. A form of sandbagging.
Triple boosted
The strategy of using a Nitro Starter, Tuning Kit and Extra Tank at the same time to set the fastest possible lap time in Events and Season 9. See also →double boosted and →unboosted.
Tune
A combination of upgrade and Pro Kit settings for a vehicle in order to increase its competitiveness, namely for multiplayer races.

Ultimate
1. An upgrade status in Asphalt 8.
2. A season in Asphalt Nitro.
Unboosted
The strategy of setting a lap time without the use of a Nitro Starter, Tuning Kit or Extra Tank in Events and Season 9. See also →double boosted and →triple boosted.
Upgrade rank percentage
The weight in percents assigned by design to each one of the four major parameters of a vehicle (acceleration, top speed, handling, nitro) in the rank spread between stock and max-pro tunes. See the percentages page for a back-calculation method and all known weightings.
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time)
Primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time, not adjusted for daylight saving time. Some timers in the Asphalt games are reset at 0:00 UTC, like Asphalt 8 Time-Limited Events and daily ads, while others follow the player's local time, such as Daily Tasks. The acronym looks incongruous to the abbreviated words, but is actually a compromise between English Coordinated Universal Time and French Temps Universel Coordonné.

Wheelie
1. Bike: A technique of only keeping the rear wheel of a bike on the ground, achieved by driving straight and firing nitro during the white zone of the purple bar in →charged mode. If the bike is on a flat ramp, a →Backflip is performed instead.
2. Car: A trick of only keeping the rear wheel(s) of a car on the ground while drifting through the spiral of Sector 8.
WSMP (World Series Multiplayer)
The original multiplayer mode in Asphalt 8 that has been phased out in favour of the Multiplayer League mode.

X[]

X0X0
Short for 10-0-10-0. Denotes a →tune for a vehicle that has 10 upgrade levels, mixing Roman numeral X (for ten) with Arabic 0 (for zero). As х is the most used placeholder for unknown or arbitrary values, the preferred notation is the unambiguous and compact hexadecimal →A0A0.
X2 (2018 McLaren X2)
A car in Asphalt 8.
X6 (BMW X6)
A car in Asphalt Xtreme.
