The Jaguar XJR-9 is a sports-prototype race car built by Jaguar for both FIA Group C and IMSA Camel GTP racing, debuting at the 1988 24 Hours of Daytona.
Description[]
An evolution of the design for the XJR-8, the XJR-9 was designed by Tony Southgate, built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) and featured a Jaguar 7.0-litre V12 engine based on the production 5.3-litre engine as used in the Jaguar XJS road car. A variant of the XJR-9, the XJR-9LM, would be developed specifically for the 24 Hours of Le Mans where the requirement for high straight line speeds on the Mulsanne Straight necessitated a low-drag aerodynamic package.
Asphalt 9: Legends[]
The Jaguar XJR-9 was added in the 2023 European Season Update as a high-ranked Class A car with following rank statistics:
- Stock rank: 3,261 ( 1)
- rank: 3,433
- rank: 3,634 ( 30)
- rank: 3,821 ( 40)
- rank: 4,066 ( 50)
- rank: 4,311 ( 65)
- rank: 4,551 ( 80)
Performance[]
At its stock rank, the Jaguar XJR-9 has a top speed of exactly 394, very poor acceleration rating (60.4), average handling rating (53.61) with a moderate drift radius, and above average nitro efficiency rating (64.18). Even at stock, the XJR-9 already has a top speed higher than all non-Class S cars. On the flipside, it has the worst acceleration among all Class A cars, as well as unremarkable handling, drift radius and nitro efficiency. As such, the XJR-9 takes an extremely long time to get up to its top speed, while it also tends to lose a lot of speed under any form of cornering and while driving on rough surfaces. The XJR-9 has a thin profile, so it tends to perform slightly more barrel rolls when launching off curved ramps. It also has soft suspension, so it may occasionally wreck while wallriding or performing consecutive 360s on the ground.
Upgrades to the Jaguar XJR-9 give the greatest improvements to its nitro efficiency, followed by acceleration, then handling, with the least increases to its top speed. Once fully upgraded, the XJR-9's nitro efficiency is statistically comparable to the excellent nitro efficiency of the Vanda Electrics Dendrobium. Its improved handling also means it loses less speed while cornering or driving on rough surfaces. However, the XJR-9's acceleration is still subpar, even with all upgrades applied.
With all top speed upgrades and import parts applied, the Jaguar XJR-9 has a top speed of 432 km/h (268 mph) when nitro/shockwave is active, and a maximum airspeed of 563 km/h (350 mph), making it the fastest non-Class S car in the game by a wide margin.
Usage[]
The Jaguar XJR-9's poor acceleration means it will always start races at the back of the pack. However, its extreme top speed means that it can perform very well on tracks with long straights, such as Himalayas, Cairo and Shanghai, while its lower handling makes it underperform slightly on tracks with many corners, such as The Caribbean, Tuscany and Norway.
In Multiplayer World Series, the Jaguar XJR-9 is unlocked for use once the player reaches Platinum League. While the XJR-9's poor acceleration suggests that it performs badly in Classic Series, its acceleration is actually slow enough that it avoids most player-to-player collisions by simply lagging behind the pack at the start of a race. Once it gets up to speed, however, the XJR-9 will eventually overtake most cars slower than the McLaren Speedtail on longer tracks. The XJR-9's high nitro efficiency also gives it good resistance against player-to-player collisions, making the task of overtaking other cars less challenging. During Ghost Slipstream Series, the XJR-9's poor acceleration makes it lag slightly behind the pack at the start of the race, so it can almost instantly charge its nitro bar by nitrosurfing, after which it can use shockwave to quickly accelerate to its top speed and gain a massive lead on most tracks.
As the Jaguar XJR-9 requires a key to unlock, and both the key and its blueprints are obtained mainly from its Special Event, the XJR-9's availability is restricted, making it less practical to obtain and upgrade compared to the McLaren 570S Spider.
Availability[]
- Main article: Jaguar XJR-9 (Special Event)
The key for the Jaguar XJR-9 was first obtainable by completing all 460 conditions in its own Special Event. Up to 24 blueprints could also be obtained by completing conditions in the event, while additional blueprints could be obtained from limited-time packs that were available only for the duration of the event.
