License Plates are a cosmetic item found in several Asphalt titles

Asphalt Urban GT→Asphalt 4: Elite Racing

As in-game graphics were preliminary in comparison to other games in the series, the license plates in that game were just white panels sticking back to a car without any letters or decorations.

Asphalt 5→Asphalt 7: Heat

License plates were more advanced thanks to advances in smartphone graphics, and license plates are finally available on all platforms. However, still, it is just a white panel with black letters saying "ASPHALT", without any extra decorations.

Asphalt 8: Airborne

License plates in Asphalt 8: Airborne vary by car, the first feature of the series related to license plates. Cars may feature either European-style plates, American-style plates, or both. Cars that were available at launch, along with the cars released in the Free to Play Update (all were added before 2014) have white and blue license plates saying "ASPHALT 8". Cars released from the Daily Bonus Update onwards have a black and red license plate with the Asphalt 8: Airborne logo (Prior to Daily Bonus Update), in which is also the first game in the series to do so. So far, the only exception to this rule is the Datsun 280Z, which uses the old license plate design. While some cars like the Aston Martin One-77 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe are depicted with white license plates in their banners and others like the GTA Spano with black license plates, their actual in-game appearance may say otherwise.

Not all cars have a license plate. The list below is a list of cars without any license plates at all:

The Rinspeed zaZen departs from this trend, instead using an actual real-life European license plate on its rear. Its license plate also bears its brand name instead of the standard "ASPHALT 8".

While the Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR-X comes with a white licence plate, it has a token-purchasable decal that can change the licence plate colour to black.

There was a graphical glitch with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X where the rear license plate was removed.

The Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Special Edition has the number "2017" stamped on its rear licence plate, making it the first car to feature the year of its debut on its licence plate. The licence plate colour is otherwise the same as the colour of the majority of update-released cars.

Since the Championship Update, Formula One Race cars have been added to the game. All Formula One Race cars do not have licence plates.

Trivia

In the Collections menu artworks, some cars with white license plates( e.g Cadillac CTS-V Coupe Race Car, in the collection Cadillac) are depicted with black license plates.
