The McLaren 12C, formerly known as the McLaren MP4-12C, is the first model in McLaren Automotive's Super Series model range and the first in-house-developed car by the company since the McLaren F1 back in 1993.
Overview[]
The McLaren MP4-12C, later known simply as the McLaren 12C,is a sports car designed and manufactured by McLaren Automotive. It is the first ever production car wholly designed and built by McLaren, and their first production road car produced since the McLaren F1, which ended production in 1998. The car's final design was unveiled in September 2009 and was launched in mid-2011.
The MP4-12C uses a carbon fibre composite chassis, and is powered by a longitudinally-mounted McLaren M838T 3.8 L (3,799 cc) twin-turbocharged V8 engine, generating approximately 600 PS (592 hp; 441 kW) at 7,500 rpm and around 600 N⋅m (443 lbf⋅ft) of torque at 5,600 rpm. The car makes use of Formula 1-sourced technologies such as "brake steer", where the inside rear wheel is braking during fast cornering to reduce understeer. Power is transmitted to the wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission manufactured by SSG. The entire drivetrain is the first to be entirely designed and produced in house by McLaren.
A convertible version of the car called the MP4-12C Spider, renamed the 12C Spider in 2012, is also available. In February 2014, McLaren announced the related 650S, with revised bodywork, upgraded engine and other technical improvements. In April 2014, McLaren announced the end of production of the 12C.
Asphalt 7: Heat[]
The McLaren 12C is a Tier 6 car. It can be unlocked by obtaining 120 stars. It costs 250,000 once unlocked.
The McLaren 12C has balanced if below-average statistics; it has a low top speed, average acceleration, low nitro speed, but has good nitro efficiency, good handling and drifting radius. It rivals the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the Ferrari 458 Spider and the Ferrari F50; it can also be considered as an upgrade to the 458 Spider. Thus, it is easy to maintain speed in the 12C without much nitro management skills, and with nimble handling and small hit-box relative to other, faster Tier 6 vehicles, the 12C can easily outmanoeuvre them on tracks like New Orleans. However, similar to the BMW M3 GT2, the 12C has a low total speed for its tier, which greatly limits its capabilities on more speed-focused or less technical tracks, as while the 12C can compete with the fastest Tier 6 cars in the corners, the same cannot be said to its straight-line speed.
The McLaren 12C competes as a starter's Tier 6 car, along with the standard-issue Corvette ZR1, 458 Spider, and the Ferrari F50; of the four, the 12C is the easiest to control because of its average acceleration, good nitro efficiency and good handling. An interesting trivia is that the 12C's control-focused statistics would actually be better suited for a starter car than the actual starter car of Tier 6, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1; the Corvette's extreme focus on nitro, poor nitro efficiency, and significantly better total speed makes it very difficult to maintain total speed, making it a poor choice for beginners with less nitro management skills.
However, the 12C's overall lacking performance requires significant more skills than other early-game cars like the Corvette ZR1 despite its beginner-friendly statistics in most game modes like Career Mode or Multiplayer; while the 12C can be used effectively in both modes, it requires the player to exploit the sharp manoeuvrers only the 12C can do, such as drifting very close to inside of corners. This makes competitive racing in the 12C to be a gruelling, if not impossible, task late game.
