Trivia[]
- The McLaren MP4-31 is the only car in the game with a display speed multiplier that shares its starting top speed and nitro stats with another car that also has a display speed multiplier.
- The MP4-31 is also the only car in the game ranked above 1600 by default that shares its starting top speed and nitro stats with another car.
- The McLaren MP4-31 is the second Championship-unlockable car with its banner set in Rio de Janeiro, after the McLaren MP4/8.
- The Championship promo ad for the McLaren MP4-31 depicts the car with Pirelli tires. The Car Blueprints Update in-game version of the car used "XX-F/Y 2334 / XXVV4558ZZ" tires.
- As of the Porsche Update, the MP4-31 now correctly uses Pirelli P Zero tires, that of the soft compound, to even more closely match its real life rendition (new in-game car pictured).
- Its banner has also been altered to reflect this change.
- The car that appears in-game has a racing number of #14, driven by Fernando Alonso during the 2016 Formula One season.
- Like with the McLaren Mercedes MP4-25, the Mobil 1 logo is missing from the car. Other missing sponsors in the game's version of the car are KPMG, Sensodyne, Esso, NRF, Boncafe and Chandon (which is a brand of alcoholic beverage).
- In the case of Chandon, this is due to international alcohol advertising regulations,
- However, the Chandon sponsor remains emblazoned on the 2018 McLaren X2's rear wing.
- In the case of Chandon, this is due to international alcohol advertising regulations,
- As with a number of cars in the game, the McLaren MP4-31's in-game top speed is much higher than in real life, at 268 mph (432 km/h).
- Due to it using a Honda engine, the McLaren MP4-31 is sometimes nicknamed "McHonda", a term also used in Formula One fan circles. Prior to the implementation of car physics 2.0 during the Halloween Update, the MP4-31 was also jokingly referred to on occasion as the "Skidlaren" due to its tendency to skid—a trait shared with other vehicles with extremely strong handling.
- In Gauntlet mode, the ghost for the MP4-31 reuses the red colored ghost from its Championship event instead of using the default blue.
