NPCs are non-playable characters in the Asphalt series and they consist of two types which are basic traffic NPCs and Racing NPCs that serve as an obstacle to the player during a race. The first type of NPC is the car: most car type NPCs are either four-door sedans or SUVS, with an exception in the London track: there is a limousine as an NPC. The second is the truck type NPC: these consist of buses, pickup trucks and cabs of trailer trucks, with an exception in Area 51 and San Diego Harbor. Since both San Diego Harbor and Area 51 are military locations, there are military vehicles, mainly armored trucks or tanks.

Traffic NPCs can only be encountered in career mode in the form of civilian vehicles like sedans, trucks, buses and large commercial trucks. They mainly spawn anywhere in the level driving at speeds of 30 to 40 MPH even though their driving a NPC vehicle is capable of wrecking a racer's vehicle if a head on collision is made. In Paint Job mode in Asphalt 7: Heat, every time the player collides with a traffic car(even after activating Adrenaline mode), 2 seconds are added to a timer.

Gallery (Sedans)

Sedans are usually based on Ford Falcons because they were made in Australia by Ford. Australia tends to use smaller and shorter cars such as the Ford Falcon and the Holden Commodore.

Gallery (Stretch)

Stretch Limousines are usually based on Mercedes-Benz S500s because they were made in Germany by Mercedes-Benz. The Mercedes-Benz S500 is a long-wheelbased car because it is big, and it has a long hood but a short deck.

Gallery (Taxi)

Taxis are usually based on Hyundai Sonatas because they were made in Korea by Hyundai. Korea favours four-door sedans as taxis such as the Hyundai Sonata and the Kia Optima.

Gallery (Hatchback)

Hatchbacks are usually based on Ford Fiestas because they were made in Germany by Ford. Germany tends to drive smaller and shorter cars such as the Ford Fiesta and the Audi A1.

Gallery (SUV)

SUVs are usually based on Chevrolet Orlandos because they were made in Korea by Chevrolet. Korea tends to drive smaller cars such as the Chevrolet Orlando and the Hyundai Tucson. However, in some occasions, it has a shape of a Range Rover Land Rover Discovery Sport.

Racers are NPC opponents, capable of moving by themselves as opposed to a predetermined course. Racers are only cars that are available to the player and come in a variety of colors. As of the Decals Update Racers are also decorated with random decals associated with their car. Although Racers cannot knock you down, they can knock each other down, as well as Traffic, as well as being wrecked with traffic. They can also knock down your AI after you finish a race. At the end of a race you can find out their name, car model, rank in the positions board, and the Decals associated with their car.
