This article is about the color customization of Asphalt Streetstorm. For other uses, see Paint (disambiguation).
Paint is a customization feature in Asphalt Street Storm Racing to change the color of a vehicle. Like all customizations, paint is purely aesthetic and does not affect performance.
Paints are treated as items that can be bought with Cash (some with Diamonds) or obtained from Gift Boxes. Paints from Gift Boxes are stored in the player's inventory and can be sold for Cash.
Unlike in Asphalt 8: Airborne, customization is more similar to real life: Changing a color always costs Cash. Also, once a paint from Gift Boxes is applied, it disappears from the inventory and must be acquired again if another paint has been applied afterwards or if the player wants to use it for another vehicle.
Specific paints are only available for a specific vehicle and cost the same amount of Cash or Diamonds, depending on the vehicle.
All other paints are generic and can be applied to almost every vehicle (except, for example, the Alpine Celebration Concept which cannot be customized at all). Prices vary by style, but are the same for all vehicles.

Every vehicle comes with one or more specific colors. The difference between the specific and generic version of a color is often minimal and barely recognizable which generally does not justify the mostly higher costs of specific colors.
The example to the right shows a BMW M2 Coupé in its specific metallic blue and the generic metallic blue. The third picture shows the non-metallic version which is more visibly different.
Not all colors are available in every style. Black, for example, is only available in matte and non-metallic style.
The difference between metallic and non-metallic (written "non metallic" in-game) is that the base color of metallic is a little bit darker so that the contrast makes the shiny effect more visible. Generally, metallic and non-metallic rather differ in the tone than in the metallic effect, so it's more a question of the players' color preference which style they choose.

Technical details[]
Asphalt Streetstorm is the only game in the Asphalt series that has explicitly written names for colors. All other games only have colored icons or buttons without name.
Generic colors[]
Generic colors that can be stored in the inventory have their full names displayed on their inventory icons (not in the Customize section).
Specific colors[]
Icon files[]
Specific colors are only accessible in the Customize section and do not display names. However, the game stores icon files of vehicles used in races in the files/_Documents/icons subfolder. The filenames of these icons contain customization information shortened to the last 9 letters each and separated by hyphens (-), with spaces represented by underscores (_), in the order:
Names of specific colors contain the vehicle name to distinguish them from generic colors. As the identifiers are shortened to their last 9 letters, the vehicle name may not always appear.
Stock Alfa Romeo 4C with no extras as displayed in the shop.
eo_4C_Red contains parts of the vehicle name and stands for the Specific Red. In this case, "metallic" is omitted, but the color is extremely similar to the generic Metallic Red.
The full paint names can be found in files/Cars.zip. Each vehicle has its own JSON file named cardb_car_Vehiclename.json. JSON files are LZ4 compressed.
