Patagonia (Spanish pronunciation: [pa.ta.ˈɣo.ni̯a]) is a sparsely populated region located at the southern end of South America, shared by Argentina and Chile. Comprising the southern Andes mountains as well as the deserts, steppes, and grasslands east of the southern Andes, Patagonia has two coasts: a western one towards the Pacific Ocean, and an eastern one towards the Atlantic Ocean.

It debuted in Asphalt 8: Airborne as a race track.

In-game advertisement

Patagonia was added in the Lunar New Year 2017 Update in early 2017. It is the first track added in 2017.

Patagonia has four tracks (2 forward & 2 reverse) variants:

  • Crystal Lake / Avalanche Alley
  • The River Fort / Ice Cave

Patagonia features various shortcuts that zip through varying vegetation, including ice caves, snowy mountains, and grassy lands featuring animals like llamas. Condors can also be seen in the sky. There is a cave tunnel reminiscent of Sector 8's tunnel pipes, but much wider and with permanent rock columns that act as obstacles.

Ice Cave is the only Patagonia track selectable in Gate Drift. A maximum of 12,900 points can be earned in one lap.

The following vehicles have their banners set in Patagonia:

  • Air time is very vital in gaining a lot of speed in this track.

Trivia

Asphalt 8: Airborne
  • Patagonia has the highest number of ramps of any track in the game.
  • Patagonia reuses Iceland's ambient background sound effects.
  • There are no variations in time of day on this track, regardless of the selected track variant.
  • Patagonia, Rio de Janeiro, Area 51Munich Subway and Transylvania were not selectable in Quick Solo Race until the Sixth Anniversary Update.
    • The preceding three tracks lack the reverse track symbol on their reverse tracks' banners (e.g. Classified, Route 375-1, Rapido Park, Highland View, Avalanche Alley, Ice Cave).
    • As of the Sixth Anniversary Update, all of the 5 tracks mentioned are now selectable in Quick Solo Race.
  • The Renault Alpine Celebration's Research & Development event ends at The River Fort, a Patagonia track.
  • In Crystal Lake, there is a teleportation glitch that allows the player to gain faster lap times than normal. This bug is actually reused from London, whose teleportation glitch was fixed in the Lunar New Year 2017 Update.
  • Crystal Lake and Ice Cave start at an elevation so steep that cars are visibly seen rolling down during the countdown. This doesn't affect the starting position as the distance covered is very minimal.
  • There is a glitch in Ice Cave where if you wreck in a certain spot near the cave entrance you will be spawned on the bridge but the rocks that fall before the ramps don't fall.
  • In the Car Blueprints Update, Patagonia was updated to use recoloured ramps and new post-race camera work.
  • For some reason, in the pre-countdown cinematic during a multiplayer race, rain droplets appear on the camera when the cinematic repeats, even if the camera shows a snowy portion of Patagonia.
  • Patagonia has a group of llamas that can be seen on one of the fields. They can be best viewed early on in the post-race cinematic after racing Avalanche Alley.
  • At the snow mountains, the ambient background sound effects heard there are reused from the Alps and Sector 8.
  • In the pre-race cinematic for one of the Patagonia Sprint Routes, eagles from Tenerife can be heard.
  • For some reason, in Avalanche Alley, during the pre-race cinematic (starting from the "PATAGONIA" part), the ambient background sound effects disappear.
  • Like in Nevada, a green variant of a 1948 GMC 100 pickup truck can be found. This 1948 GMC 100 is in better condition than the two rusty, blue wrecked versions found in Nevada. It is parked next to a white house with a red roof that is located near one of the major jump ledges. It can be seen mid-race on the River Fort track, or during special pre-race cinematics.
  • Patagonia and Tenerife are the only mountainous tracks in the game that do not feature any decorations during the annual Christmas Seasons. The ones that do are the Alps and Iceland. By contrast, Tokyo is the only urban track that features decorations.
