The Pro Kit Box modular system is a system that

  • enables users to easily insert a Pro Kit Box in an article and
  • keeps Pro Kit Boxes up-to-date everywhere on Asphalt Wiki by storing their data in separate templates.

Pro Kit Boxes appear at many different places, mostly together with data like price, drop rates or statistical values:

Unfortunately, one inherent property of Pro Kit Boxes is constant change. It would be extremely time-consuming and error-prone to replace outdated information on every single page where a box is mentioned. Therefore, each box has its own data container. Technically, these containers are templates.

Instead of manually writing down every property of a box, editors can simply insert the box name surrounded by curly brackets {{ }}. This tells the Asphalt Wiki parser to not treat this as simple text, but to display the content of the corresponding template instead. If the template is edited, all wiki pages containing it will display the changes without further maintenance.

Template types[]

There are three types of first-level Pro Kit Box templates editors can use in articles:

  • predefined boxes (for example {{Champion Kit Box}}) that already contain all data such as description, drop rates, price and availability,
  • half-custom boxes like {{R&D Basic Kit Box}} that are reused for events, but have different content that users can edit,
  • a custom box ({{A8box}}) where all parameters can be fully customized.

For an explanation of parameters for half-custom and custom boxes, see {{A8box}}.

Display styles[]

Furthermore, boxes can be displayed in different styles by using the style parameter: inline, as a compact block, a table row or an infobox—all appearances refer to the same template, only the outer appearance is different.

style = inline (default)[]

Pro Kit Box autocomplete

Using autocomplete for Pro Kit Box templates

The easiest way to display a box is to type two opening curly brackets followed by the first letters of the box name. The autocomplete feature will usually show a preview of possible templates to choose from. For instance, typing {{opti is sufficient to complete the text to {{Optimal Shuffle Box}} which will display as Optimal Shuffle Box Optimal Shuffle Box.

In this example, no style parameter has been specified. Omitting it defaults to style = inline.

The inline style displays nothing but icon and box name. If the box has its own article, both icon and name will link to it.

{{Champion Kit Box}} or
{{Champion Kit Box|style=inline}} gives:

Champion Kit Box Champion Kit Box

The inline style has an additional suffix parameter. As boxes are sometimes mentioned in plural forms, editors can simply add a pipe (|) followed by the plural ending. In styles other than inline, the suffix parameter is ignored.

{{Champion Kit Box|es}} or
{{Champion Kit Box|es|style=inline}} gives:

Champion Kit Box Champion Kit Boxes

However, if the suffix starts with a number sign (#), it is not added to the box name, but interpreted as a single parameter call. This displays the value of the parameter instead of the box (see {{A8box-meta}} for further details and a parameter list). Example:

The {{Champion Kit Box}} currently contains {{Champion Kit Box|#items}} cards. gives:

The Champion Kit Box Champion Kit Box currently contains 30 cards.

style = compact[]

The compact style is meant for in-depth overviews and displays all of the box's information except for statistical data.

{{Champion Kit Box|style=compact}} gives:

style = list[]

The list style is used for (bulleted) lists. The box icon is smaller, and the information is displayed in a single line instead of a block. Availability is not shown.

style = icon[]

If only the icon is needed without further information, the icon style can be used.

{{Champion Kit Box|style=icon}} gives:

Champion Kit Box

If there is an article about the box, the image will link to it.

Editors can change the icon size by adding a size parameter like in [[File:Example.png|60px]].

  • In styles other than icon, the size parameter is ignored.
  • size = 20px scales the icon to a width of 20 pixels (px),
    size = x20px scales it to a height of 20 px.
    size = 20x20px scales the icon to fit both width and height of 20 px.

{{Champion Kit Box|style=icon|size=30px}} gives:

style = template[]

The template style is used when an editor wants to link to the box template instead of the article.

{{Champion Kit Box|style=template}} gives:

The infobox is the most comprehensive display style which also contains all statistical data of WikiProject Statistics (if available).

Infoboxes should only be inserted on a box's own article page as they automatically categorize the page depending on the availability of the box. For example, an article page with an infobox of the Champion Kit Box will be categorized under Category:Purchasable boxes (Asphalt 8) because it has a price.

This applies only to pages within the article (main) namespace. As this page is in the Help: namespace, it is not categorized.

{{Champion Kit Box|style=infobox}} gives:

Standard tables[]

Pro Kit Box templates can be combined with table header templates to display various kinds of sortable tables. The header template for standard tables is {{A8box table header}}

style = table[]

The A8BoxInfo box info of most boxes is divided into common, rare and legendary. style = table works for all boxes but Festival Bundles and World Tour Supplies which have different box infos.

  • The table header template does not need additional parameters if used for style = table.
  • For all other table styles, the header template requires the same style parameter as the box template(s).

Statistics tables[]

Statistics tables can help organize, compare and analyze the statistical data in Pro Kit Box templates.

style = table mini[]

The mini table appears on many special event pages (Championship, R&D, EDD, ...). It is designed to give players a quick overview of selected cards and which boxes grant most of them. The indicator lights after the icons show the sample size for each box. See Sample size for details.

There is a ready-to-use template which already contains a customizable mini table for the most common boxes: {{Pro kit box statistics mini table}}. It is recommended to use this template on event pages instead of constructing the table manually. This ensures a consistent appearance on all event pages.

If it is required to build a different mini table:

{{A8box table header statistics mini|float=left|tech=eima|engine=v12|class=s|
  {{Champion Kit Box|style=table mini|tech=eima|engine=v12|class=s}}

General statistics tables[]

General statistics tables are mainly used on Pro Kit Box statistics: average frequencies and Pro Kit Box statistics: minimum card requirements.

  • The header template for general statistics tables is {{A8box table header statistics}}. It can display two variants of box tables: average relative frequencies and the minimum number of revealed cards required to get an item with a probability of 90 %. As the header stays the same for both variants, it requires the same style parameter as the box template(s), but without a possible mincards suffix. The mincards variant is only shown in the first example, but works with all parameters accordingly.
  • The indicator lights after the icons show the sample size for each box. See Sample size for details.

Technical details[]

Technically, all box templates used in articles are first-level templates. They pass their parameters to {{A8box-meta}} which routes them to the correct third-level metatemplate depending on the style parameter.

The following overview shows the structure of the system, together with all metatemplates acting "behind the scenes":
