The Porsche 911 GT3 RS's Research & Development event was released as part of the Porsche Update and held on the following dates:
- June 23, 2017. It is the third event in the Porsche Motor Series, held after the Porsche 959's Championship event and before the Porsche 718 Boxster S's Championship.
- September 20, 2018 (after the Maserati Alfieri's R&D)
- March 21, 2020 (as part of the 2020 Spring Update's Asphalt Moments series)
There are 4 labs spanning a total of 50 tests with a time limit of 14 days (12 days in the Fifth Anniversary Update) once the event is started. In the Fifth Anniversary Update, Proto Key refills take 4.5 hours, a 50% increase from the original 3 hours.

- Lab 002: 3 days later (2 days for the second edition) or pay

Tips / Warnings[]
- Be careful of Tests .048. and .049., as these are Flawless races set in Iceland Reverse and The Mirage, respectively, that occur consecutively, the first time that an R&D event does so.
- This mirrors the W Motors Fenyr SuperSport's R&D event featuring two Flawless tests between the last two Ultimate AI Challenges in Lab .004. (Tests .061. and .064.).
- If the player played through the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage's and GT by CITROEN's respective, R&D events, parts of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS R&D should be familiar to the player.
- The race time objective for Test .048. is impossible with just a maxed out car. It is possible with at least 0505 2020 (A1513) or 5555 2222 (A1605).
- With those upgrade configurations, it is highly recommended to play with both Nitro Starter and Tuning Kit activated. Extra Tank is also recommended, but not required.
- As of the Fifth Anniversary Update, traffic has been restored in Iceland; it is now highly recommended to take extra caution in this test or have at least 1,000 ready to be sacrificed for Auto-Pass or restoring lost Quality Checks from fails.
- Test .050. can be cleared with just a maxed out car, although to clear it without any handling or acceleration upgrades, upgrading the Drivetrain, Tires, and Exhaust to at least Level 2 or 3 are recommended.
- As previously mentioned, this R&D event can be cleared with a minimum upgrade configuration of at least 0505 2020 (A1513), meaning the player can save Exceptional Engines for the Porsche 918 Spyder with Weissach Package's Enduro Double Down event. The 911 GT3 RS uses Exceptional Engines only from the Level 3 Pro Kit upgrades onwards.
- In Test .038. (Tokyo Reverse, Elimination), be careful of taking certain detour routes, as there is one route that is known to always inexplicably Wreck the player's car during this event, thus failing the "No Wrecks" sub-goal.
- In the Fifth Anniversary Update relaunch of this event, the time limit is now stricter by 2 days; coupled with the increased refill time for Proto Keys, the player should have at least 700 ready to spend on Auto-Pass, restoring lost Quality Checks from fails, and refilling Proto Keys.

- This is the second R&D event to grant BP boxes for the car instead of the actual car itself, after the Lotus Evora Sport 410's R&D event.
- This change did not apply to the relaunched version of the event in the Fifth Anniversary Update.
- The R&D Boxes from this event erroneously refer to the car as simply Porsche 911 GT3.
- On July 17, 2017, players who completed the R&D event for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS received 50,000 as compensation due to the delay in receiving the rewards for Test .050. (excluding the last 15 Porsche 911 GT3 RS BP Boxes).
