The Rinspeed zaZen is a Porsche 911 (997) Carrera S-based concept sports car developed by Rinspeed and Bayer MaterialScience.
The breathtakingly designed vehicle concept was born at the Swiss engineering specialists, Esoro, from one single vision and many imaginative ideas. The entire roof dome down to the belt line is made of Bayer's transparent Makrolon® polycarbonate. A glass-clear elastic sealant from Revoflex AG has been used to achieve an optimum joint with the body. The striking hardtop is light in both senses of the word. Not only does it appear to float airily above the rather chunky body, it is also weighs many kilograms less than glass – not that it would be possible to make it from glass in the first place.
The “zaZen”, which weighs 1,495 kg, is powered by a 355 bhp 6-cylinder boxer engine from the Porsche 997 Carrera S. It has a top speed of 293 kph and accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in exactly 4.8 sec. Should the “zaZen” be built in a small series at some time in the future, Rinspeed will consider – in line with its tradition – offering it with an environmentally friendly natural gas propulsion system.
At 6,600 rpm, the engine has a maximum torque of 400 Nm, which is transmitted to the rear axle via a manual six-speed transmission. The necessary traction is provided by Dunlop tires with Touch Technology (245/30-20 at the front and 305/25-20 at the rear), mounted on lightweight Rinspeed five-spoke rims (8.5 x 20” at the front and 11 x 20” at the rear) made by CW Fahrzeugtechnik (Borbet Group).
The Rinspeed zaZen was added in the Lunar New Year Update as a mid Class B vehicle with the following statistics:
- Starting rank: 1207
- This was changed to 1256 in the 2019 Spring Update.
- MAX rank: 1489
- This was changed to 1463 (+207) in the 2019 Spring Update.
- MAX+PRO rank: 1602
- This was changed to 1561 (+94) in the 2019 Spring Update.
- Tuning Kit bonus: +57
- This was changed to +63 in the Showdown Update.
- Nitro Efficiency: 4/8/12
Note: This vehicle is no longer available for purchase on most platforms.
The Rinspeed zaZen has decent top speed for a mid Class B vehicle, extremely good nitro efficiency (4/8/12) and good handling. However, the Rinspeed zaZen suffers slightly with drifting and acceleration.
At the time it was added to the game, the Rinspeed zaZen had the best nitro efficiency in the entire game. This was later matched by the Donkervoort D8 GTO and then beaten or challenged by a range of other vehicles, including the McLaren 720S, Porsche Cayman GT4, Peugeot RCZ R, Renault Trezor, and Audi R8 e-tron Special Edition.
As of the Fall Out Boy Update, the Rinspeed zaZen is now nearly completely useless for Multiplayer. Previously, it served as an "underdog", with similar performance to theLamborghini Asterion, Mercedes-Benz Biome, ONUK Sazan LM, and an over-tuned Shelby Cobra 427.
The zaZen reaches a speed of 252.3 mph (406.3 km/h) at rank 1388. [Unknown Tuning]
The Rinspeed zaZen has some use as a TLE car in the mid Class B bracket.
The Rinspeed zaZen costs 675,000 to purchase. As of the 2019 Spring Update, upgrades cost 1,020,000 while Pro Kits require 341,600, 16 of each Class B Part, 12 Initial & Early Techs each, 24 Mid-Techs and 24 i6 Engines.
Prior to the Lunar New Year 2017 Update, the Rinspeed zaZen had always been available for purchase since February 26, 2016. It was changed into a time-limited car, available only for purchase between February 19, 2017, and February 25, 2017. It was also available as a reward for getting 15 trophies in the Rinspeed zaZen Multi-Event between April 28, 2017, to May 4, 2017.
