[edit] Template-info Template documentation

This is the Chronology template. It can be included in articles to make them appear in Asphalt history lists. Possible articles are:

Chronology categorizes articles so that they can be selected by functions that create dynamic page lists for history pages and overviews.

On periodical event pages, Chronology has to be placed at the top of the page because it creates an additional history navigation bar (using History navbar) which disappears if the event is included in a history list. On special event and update pages, Chronology does not produce visible output and is therefore usually placed

  • at the top of the page (after Tabs vehicle if existent) as it is similar to an "invisible infobox" or
  • at the very bottom of the page after the categories as it categorizes the page.

Chronology must always be surrounded by <noinclude> </noinclude> tags. Otherwise it would recategorize every history page your event is listed on.

Note: If you have added Chronology to an article and want to see it on overview pages like July 10 or Special events (Asphalt 8), you usually have to click the Reload link at the top right corner of the navigation bar to clear the cache and reload the page, now including your newly added event.

}}</noinclude>

Parameters

type

  • Required. One of the following options:
    • periodical event
    • special event
    • update
  • The values tle and lte are deprecated for periodical event but kept for backwards compatibility.

game

  • Required. Text.
  • The game name in any form.
  • Internally, this template uses Game to extract the right game name from the value.

article

  • Required. Text.
  • The exact and full page name of your article after "wiki/".
    • Periodical events: The page name must have the format YYYY-MM-YY Full Event Name, otherwise it is not a periodical event page. Example: 2020-06-23 Exhaust Cup.
    • Special events: Some older special events are still subpages of other pages. Include the full path after "wiki/", for example Research & Development/BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage. Do not rename these pages, see WikiProject Subpages for reasons.

missing data

  • Only for periodical events.
  • Optional. Boolean.
  • Set to 1 if the leaderboard has incomplete data, mostly for old Asphalt 8 TLEs when the exact goals have not been logged. Also for missing banner images. This categorizes the page under Category:Periodical events with missing data for later revision.

name

  • Only for special events and updates.
  • Optional. The name to be displayed for the event.
  • Typically, brackets in the article name are omitted for the display name.
Example: DS E-Tense (Festival) → DS E-Tense Festival
  • Also, game disambiguations in parentheses should be stripped as the template adds the game automatically after the name. Otherwise, page names like "2020 Spring Update (Asphalt Nitro)" would be displayed as "2020 Spring Update (Asphalt Nitro) (Asphalt Nitro)".
  • Finally, leading year numbers should be omitted. As overviews add a leading date with year, there is no need for a double year. Thus, "2020 Spring Update (Asphalt Nitro)" should become simply "Spring Update". The article parameter makes sure that the link behind the name remains unique.

date

  • Only for special events and updates.
  • Required. The start date of the event in ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD).

file

  • Only for special events and updates.
  • Optional. Filename of the event image to display, without surrounding .
  • The event image serves as a hidden edit link. When the image is clicked, it leads directly to the event page. Otherwise, if the event is listed on overview pages, all other edit links only lead to the higher-level overview page that contains the event.
  • If omitted, a small edit link is displayed instead.
    • Special events: Usually the promo image of the event.
    • Updates: Usually the app icon of the update.

duration

  • Only for special events.
  • Optional. Event duration in hours, days or weeks.
  • Format: # unit, no abbreviations.
  • The smallest number of a unit is replaced by the next smaller unit, i. e.
    • 1 day → 24 hours
    • 1 week → 7 days
  • If omitted, the corresponding table cell will be displayed nevertheless.

version

  • Only for updates.
  • Optional. The version number of the update.
  • Format: #.#.#, no leading v. Example: 4.3.0

summary

  • Only for special events and updates.
  • Optional. Free text with interesting facts about the event if available.
  • Full sentences should use present tense. Example: XY is introduced., not XY was introduced.
    • Special events: If omitted, only the three standard rows of the table are displayed. Be concise; this is not the place to write complete event analyses. No line breaks. No list of revival dates. Two lines should be enough so that the table is not stretched. Facts like "This is the first event to ..." can be fun to read though.
    • Updates: Use Bulleted list. First Point should be "New vehicles: [vehicles]". Be concise. Maximum three bullet points. If omitted, the corresponding table cell will be displayed nonetheless.

Examples

Chronology does not produce content itself. This is done by history item templates, namely:

Periodical events

Chronology and the output template History item periodical event are both on the same page. In dynamic page lists, the event article 2020-07-02 Pickup Solo Challenge level 5 is usually included as a whole, for example on July 2.

<noinclude></noinclude>

gives:

2020: Pickup Solo Challenge level 5

Pickup Solo Challenge Aircraft Boneyard Unimog U 4023 ax
Duration 24 hours
Entry Tickets small ax 2
Track Aircraft Boneyard
Mode Classic

Finish 1st Ax tokens full 5
Finish race Ax credits full 1,500

Special events

Special event pages are not included as a whole in dynamic page lists. Therefore, Chronology provides the basic data, and History item special event acts as a phantom template that is called later to produce the output.

Used on Research & Development/BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage (a subpage that cannot be moved, see article parameter above), Chronology stores the following data, which is then used by History item special event on a history page like April 1:

<noinclude></noinclude>

gives:

2016: BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Research & Development (Asphalt 8)

3.0 CSL R&D Promo BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Research & Development
Game Asphalt 8: Airborne Dummy text: This is the very first R&D to feature a yellow car.
Duration 14 days

Updates

Like special event pages, update pages are not included as a whole in dynamic page lists. The procedure is the same, but with History item update as phantom template.

Used on The American Season Update, Chronology stores the following data, which is then used by History item update on a history page like June 30:

<noinclude></noinclude>

gives:

2020: The American Season Update (Asphalt 9)

A9 v1.5 icon The American Season Update
Game Asphalt 9: Legends
Version 2.3.3
