If you are familiar with this, Asphalt 8 was definitely your childhood game but unfortunately let's talk about the history of the downfall.
March 20 2014: Booster price tag increase and car price tag changes[]
This is where the downfall began for me, WHAT THE HELL IS THAT! Gameloft as you know increased the price tag of Nitro Starter, Tuning Kit † and many cars as in look at the changes
- Cadillac CTS-V Coupe Race Car: 26,500 → 45,000
- Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series: 30,000 → 55,000
- Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR-X: 45,000 → 60,000
- Marussia B2: 55,000 → 75,000 (later changed to 85,000 before being reverted back)
- Chevrolet Corvette C7: 60,000 → 85,000
- McLaren 12C Spider: 75,000 → 90,000
- Pagani Zonda R: 90,000 → 110,000
- Lamborghini Veneno: 32,000/50,000 → 140,000
- GTA Spano: 70,000 → 160,000
- RUF CTR 3: 100,000 → 175,000
Nitro Starter & Tuning kit changed from 9,000 → 24,000
June 18 2014: Premium Cars, Fuel Events, Very Expensive Cars, and McLaren P1 price tag change[]
Just why? This is when Asphalt 8 started to truly become Pay2Win and I will show you the changes.
- All events now require Fuel ( 0 - 10) and no longer allow a car to be rented manually, as all cars are now rented by default (e.g. "Free Try" or "Stock Vehicle").
- Premium Cars introduced. These cars could only be obtained via their IAP car packs.
- All cars introduced from this update, including the SSC Tuatara, onwards are significantly more expensive than cars from previous updates, especially in upgrades.
- Booster duration reduced for all boosters.
- The McLaren P1™'s price was raised to 475,000 after the introduction of the Ferrari FF.
December 17 2014: Addition of Pro Kits and Tokens[]
Well well well, now this is when things started to truly go bad.
- Pro Kits introduced. These allow a car to perform better than its maximum rank would allow, similar to a Tuning Kit. However, unlike Tuning Kits, Pro Kits can upgrade the stats of a car individually, and require cards in order to purchase unlocks
- New currency: Tokens (). Tokens are a premium currency introduced in this update, and can be used to buy Double Credits Bonuses, Extra Tanks, Pro Kit Boxes, cars, and to refill fuel points.
March 5 2015: Reduction of the payout when participated[]
Why is this happening?
- "Participated" race reward of Elimination races reduced by 80% in Career Mode, allowing no more than 291 to be earned for finishing outside of the podium finish (3rd, 2nd, or 1st).
September 30 2015: Mastery Changes[]
Yay. This is when Asphalt 8 started going to a new low.
- Many Car Mastery Rewards were reduced or removed:
- Camaro Z/28 Nitro Starter reduced from 24x to 6x, Tuning Kit from 16x to 4x, Extra Tank from 12x to 3x(!)
- Datsun 280Z Extra Tank reward is reduced from 12 to 6
- Renault DeZir Class D free upgrade is reduced from 3 to 1
- Ford F-150 Class D free upgrade is reduced from 2 to 1
- Renault CLIO R.S. 200 EDC Class D free upgrade is reduced from 2 to 1
- Lamborghini Urus Class B free upgrade is reduced to 2x Nitro Starter

- Aston Martin V12 Zagato Class B free upgrade is reduced from 2 to 1
- Nissan GT-R (R35) Class A free upgrade reduced to 2x Nitro Starter
- Mercedes-Benz Biome Class B free upgrade is reduced from 2 to 1
- Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 2013 Class B free upgrade reduced from 2 to 1, and 2x Class A upgrade reduced to 2x Nitro Starter

- Chevrolet Corvette C7 Class A free upgrade is reduced from 2 to 1
- Ferrari F12berlinetta Class A free upgrade is reduced from 2 to 1
- RUF RT 12 S challenge 10, Class A free upgrade is reduced from 3 to 1
- Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Class S free upgrade reduced to 3x Nitro Starter.
- Many of the Mastery challenges' first place credit rewards were reduced with the exception of the last Challenge.
- In Mastery, the base credits used to be at a regular increment. This is no longer the case, it is impossible to calculate the base credits of a given challenge from the interval of the first and the second challenge.
- In Mastery, only the first two races are now available at the starting rank, whereas the first five were previously available.
- If the player previously completed Challenge 3, 4 or 5 without upgrading their car before updating to the Research & Development Update, the race would still be replayable.

Oh noes. More IAP yay.
